I do remember my grade one teacher reading to us from the Bible, however. I think it may have been a Children's Bible, though, and not the Bible proper, because I remember a lot of pictures. My most distinct memory is being horrified that when Moses let the parted waters return and drowned the Pharaoh's army, he also drowned the horses that were pulling the chariots. To me, that seemed awfully unfair, because the horses never asked to be there. It's odd that is such a distinct memory.Mozglubovhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04803674886685831282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196547498235237605.post-62178754967224632522009-04-07T23:20:00.000-04:002009-04-07T23:20:00.000-04:00The religious school problem is an historical fact...The religious school problem is an historical fact. Probably dictated by the need to form a federal government and hence the compromises.I think the Catholic system has to be maintained to grade 8: the extent of public education in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. I once knew many of the details but have forgotten most. Manitoba also has a "public" and catholic system created when they became a province.
No, the national anthem was never sung in B.C. public schools. The lord's prayer and a reading from the Bible used to open the school day but I am not certain that was still in place when you entered public school
GAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
